Bell Canada – No Communication Breakdown
A communications company expressed a
requirement to assess the risks inherent to its Data Centre
operations. The main concern included natural, technological and
sociological driven events that could cause information technology
service interruptions, thereby decreasing site availability.
Acuratek and its team amassed data to
perform the assessment from multiple sources including an industrial
site survey, aviation, marine and topographical chart data as well
as natural hazard data for the region. «Failure Mode» scenarios were
developed to include potential consequences arising from each
incident. In turn, these scenarios were deliberated on by a team of
various subject matter specialists to rank them by likelihood and
severity. In total, 128 different risks were identified; each of
these was classified in a risk matrix developed to this effect.
Finally, the top 20 risks were identified
and further analysed. The risk assessment provided by Acuratek and
its partners solidified the company’s intention to provide hot
standby computer services to a third party client through better
knowledge of their business environment.
C.A.T. Transport – Recovery Strategies
In need of solutions to be able to bounce
back in the event of a major incident, it was proposed that C.A.T.
inc. elaborate a business continuity plan. Marsh Canada Ltd. and
Acuratek were mandated to provide a plan that covered the specific
activities necessary to respond to an occurrence that would
hypothetically render head office activities inoperable.
Tactics were developed in order to provide
C.A.T. inc. with the necessary knowledge and tools to be able to
restore its critical functions within hours. A study of current
business procedures was conducted and served as a basis for the
development of prevention methods and recovery strategies.
The plan proposed answered to the specific
needs of C.A.T., providing them with personalised knowledge. New
strategies in hand, the enterprise could move forward in confidence,
holding the key to maintaining their business standards.
